ServerHold is a registry-level status that prevents a .LY domain from being published normally in DNS. NIC.LY may apply it from about one day after expiry, although other registry or policy reasons can also cause a hold.
For the complete timeline and source notes, see the .LY domain lifecycle. Timings are approximate and the actual registry status controls what action is available.
What stops working?
- The website may become unreachable through the domain name.
- Email delivery can fail or be delayed because senders cannot resolve the domain’s MX records.
- Subdomains, APIs, VPN hostnames, and DNS-based verification can also fail.
- Cached DNS may cause different users to see the interruption at different times.
Does ServerHold delete my data?
- No. ServerHold affects DNS publication; it does not by itself delete website files, mailboxes, databases, or hosting data.
- Hosting and email are separate services with their own payment, suspension, retention, and termination rules. Maintain independent backups.
How do I remove ServerHold?
- Check the domain status and expiry date in Client Area and WHOIS.
- If the domain expired, complete the available renewal process immediately.
- If renewal is unavailable or the status has another cause, contact support for the required recovery or verification steps.
- After the hold is removed, allow time for DNS publication and caches to update.
